LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – It was a very special Fourth on Broadway on Saturday as Lubbock residents lined the streets to celebrate 250 years of American independence.
The celebration drew residents to the streets Saturday for a day of Independence Day festivities, including a parade featuring floats and cars.
The winning float featured a design portraying the Boston Tea Party.
One attendee, identified on screen as a parade-goer, said the celebration carried personal and national significance.
“I’m so excited celebrating the 250, the freedom we have here in this country and I give all the honor and glory to God,” one attendee said. “I’m so thankful to be here celebrating with family.”
Another said, “It’s a family tradition that we have. It started since we were young and now we get to bring our own kids to come out here and just seeing the evolution of how our parade started when I was younger to now as a parent, it’s really cool to see.”
Mayor McBrayer spoke about what the country’s 250th anniversary means for the next generation.
“There’s nothing better than the smiling faces of kids,” Mayor McBrayer said, “They’re happy. They represent our future and we want it to be a happy and fulfilling future for them,” she said. “250 is really a repromising for them, everything that America is and that’s going to still be there for them.”
