SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles dropped their third consecutive game Saturday, falling to the San Antonio Missions 8-1 at Nelson Wolff Stadium.
Amarillo trailed 8-0 after three innings and managed just one run the rest of the way.
San Antonio’s big second inning
The Missions put six runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. A one-out single put the first Missions baserunner on, and a throwing error placed runners on the corners. Albert Fabian drove both home with a two-run triple inside the first base line.
Soddies starter Daniel Eagen hit the next two batters. Ethan Salas added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0, and Kai Cunningham followed with a three-run home run off the left field foul pole to make it 6-0.
Third inning extends the lead
Eagen continued to struggle in the third. Braedon Karpathios opened the frame with a solo home run. Jack Hurley lost a potential third out in the sun, leading to a double by Francisco Acuna, who scored on a Wyatt Hoffman single to push the Missions’ lead to 8-0.
Amarillo’s lone run
The Sod Poodles broke through in the top of the sixth when Alberto Barriga led off with a double. Two batters later, Anderdson Rojas lined a base hit up the middle to score Barriga for Amarillo’s only run of the game.
The Sod Poodles loaded the bases with one out in a later inning against Tucker Musgrove but could not score, ending their final threat of the night on a pop out and a strikeout.
