With the Rangers’ reliever named to the American League All-Star team’s bullpen, his first appearance in the midsummer classic, Schumaker was sure to spotlight Latz’ achievement in front of the guys before Saturday’s game. Schumaker announced in front of the Rangers’ entire clubhouse that Latz was heading to Philadelphia for the All-Star Game, where he’ll be the Rangers’ only representative.
“It feels good to represent this team,” Latz said to the clubhouse after Schumaker broke the news. “We’re on a good run right now, so that’s cool to be there but let’s keep it going here.”
The 30-year-old Latz has a 1.71 ERA in 42 innings, is 18 for 20 in save opportunities and ranks third among AL relief pitchers with 1.4 WAR this season.
