An 18-year-old man was injured in a shooting on the beach in Port Aransas on the evening of Saturday, July 4, police said.
Following is the full text of a news release issued by the Port Aransas Police Department.
“At approximately 11:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, officers with the Port Aransas Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on the beach between Beach Markers 32 and 34. Officers were assisted at the scene by wardens from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and troopers from the Texas Highway Patrol.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred during a large beach gathering following an altercation between the victim and the suspect. An 18-year-old male sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg.
“The victim was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
“The Port Aransas Police Department is actively investigating this incident. Detectives continue to process evidence, interview witnesses, and work to identify all individuals involved. This remains a very active and ongoing investigation.
“Additional information will be released if and when it becomes available and can be shared without compromising the investigation.
