The YWCA of Corpus Christi will host their inaugural “Fit Over 40” Fest, promoting health and community for women of all abilities as it marks its 80th anniversary.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The YWCA of Corpus Christi is launching a first-of-its-kind festival for women over 40 — and it’s all about getting fit.
The inaugural “Fit Over 40” Women’s Fit Fest is set for Aug. 23. The event is a showcase of endurance, strength, and movement for women of all ability levels. Competition comprises of “elite” categories for the fitness buffs looking for a challenge, as well as “modified” categories made specifically to accommodate women with less mobility.
Organizers say the goal is to encourage women to stay active and build community throughout every season of their lives.
That message carries even more meaning this year as the YWCA celebrates its 80th anniversary.
“So we have a modified race, we have an elite race, and this is gonna open the floor up for anyone, of any ability, to be able to participate, get back into that fun competition and really just be able to get involved with the community that’s not only going to motivate them but also give them modifications and make them feel empowered and included,”
