H-E-B is expanding its network in one of Texas’ fastest-growing areas, according to multiple reports.
The San Antonio-based retailer plans to open future stores along parts of Interstate 35 and in the Hill Country, with locations marked for San Marcos, Dripping Springs and Buda.
H-E-B purchased 44 acres at I-35 and Yarrington Road in San Marcos across from a Buc-ee’s travel center that will open in the coming weeks. The store could reach 118,000 square feet with more than 1,000 parking spaces.
A third San Marcos store at I-35 and McCarty Lane is already under construction and will span 114,000 square feet when it opens in the fall. It will include the city’s first True Texas BBQ restaurant along with a fuel station, car wash and H-E-B Fresh Bites convenience store. H-E-B also operates stores on West Hopkins Street and East Hopkins Street.
However, the retailer told the San Antonio Express-News the Yarrington Road spot has not been officially claimed for an H-E-B store. The grocer creates site plans for all purchased property to ensure a future location is feasible.
According to documents, H-E-B plans to demolish an existing store at U.S. 290 in Dripping Springs and build a larger 125,000-square-foot location in its place. The retailer would convert the current store site into parking.
The Buda location sits along I-35 on a former landfill site. Like in Dripping Springs, a larger new store will replace an existing one.
