LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Hot temperatures and low rain chances returned to the South Plains today. This hot and drier period will last through the week with changes coming up for the weekend.
South Plains heat peaks near 100 before weekend storms arrive(KCBD)
Tuesday will continue to be sunny and hot with the afternoon temperature in Lubbock in the mid-90s. By Wednesday and continuing through Friday, the afternoon temperatures will climb closer to the century mark through Friday. We are likely see some of the South Plains, especially along and off the caprock, experience afternoon highs at or above 100 degrees.
As upper-level high pressure settles this week rain chances of storms will remain low until Friday. There may be some isolated storms each afternoon and evening, but coverage will be limited.

Storms are expected to return on Friday and continue through the weekend. As clouds and rain chances increase, the afternoon temperatures will fall over the west Texas area.
