ANTHONY, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 22-year-old woman and an El Paso boxer is facing a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member following an alleged altercation during a Fourth of July gathering in Anthony, according to a criminal complaint affidavit filed in El Paso County.
According to the affidavit, Kayla Victoria Gomez is accused of intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to her step-aunt on July 4.
Gomez has been charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member.

Anthony police officers responded to a reported assault around 3:26 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of Celeste Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers made contact with the alleged victim, who told investigators the altercation began after a disagreement over decorations for Gomez’s daughter’s celebration.
According to the affidavit, the victim told police Gomez punched her multiple times in the face with closed fists. The victim said she was unable to recall exactly how many times she was struck because she lost consciousness and “blacked out.”
After regaining consciousness, the victim told officers she saw family members attempting to restrain Gomez because she allegedly continued trying to assault her.
The responding officer reported observing visible injuries to the victim, including injuries to the inside of her upper lip and both sides of her face. The victim also complained of pain in both cheeks.
According to the affidavit, witnesses at the gathering identified Gomez as the primary aggressor in the altercation. The victim signed a prosecution affidavit requesting that charges be pursued.
