After 17 years on air at a North Texas station, one longtime TV meteorologist is signing off, but she said it “isn’t goodbye, just the end of this chapter.”
Samantha Davies, who joined NBC 5 KXAS in the Dallas-Fort Worth area back in 2009, spent her last week on air in late June. On Instagram, she wrote that it wraps up her almost 20-year career at NBC, sharing alongside her caption a carousel of photos dating back to 2007. In the photos, Davies gave the forecast on the TODAY Show, MSNBC and CNBC World in 2008. She also shared photos with some of her colleagues in Dallas, her Emmy win and other moments.
“I’m so thankful for my managers and teammates for supporting me over the years,” Davies wrote. “It’s been a journey and am so honored NBC was my home for so long. Thank you to my family for the constant support- the hours were not easy, but you made it possible!”
Before signing off, Davis could be seen covering traffic from 5 to 7 a.m. on weekdays, as well as the 11 a.m. forecast. Though she has spent about 17 years at NBC 5, she was also a meteorologist for national programs NBC Weather Plus and MSNBC before her time there. Davies also appeared on Nightly News and was the morning meteorologist for CNBC World’s Squawk Australia.
Hailing from Rochester, New York, her hometown is where her love for weather began amid harsh winters. According to her NBC 5 bio, her passion for meteorology really kicked off in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida. It was one of the state’s most destructive, and Davies was there to help with evacuation. “She saw firsthand the damage and devastation left behind by that powerful storm,” her bio reads.
After decades in TV, the last photo in Davies’ post was with her two children in 2017, which she captioned “now it’s time to spend my morning with these kids.”
“Jeff has spent his career helping North Texans through Texas’ unpredictable weather. His love for this community, his leadership in the newsroom and, of course, his love for plants have made him such a special part of our team,” a Facebook post from CBS News Texas reads. “Around the newsroom, Jeff has also brought so much laughter, joy and unforgettable stories to the people lucky enough to work alongside him. Thank you, Jeff, for the forecasts, the guidance and the memories you’ve shared with us over the years. We’ll miss you, but we’re so excited for this next chapter!”
