Heat ramps up as rain chances move in this weekend

  • July 7, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – For July it’s not a bad looking forecast for the South Plains! Nothing completely out of the ordinary on the way, we’ve hot and sunny weather with some rain chances moving in for the weekend ahead.

TODAY

Beautiful and sunny. High temperatures stay hot as we stick to the mid to upper 90s for most of the area today.

Winds will try to help a little, picking up to a nice breeze around 10 to 20 mph but you’ll need to do something extra to stay cool if you’re out for a while.

TONIGHT

Comfortable and mild. Low temperatures drop into the 70s mostly, staying slightly more warm than last night. Winds remain light around 5 to 15 mph.

WEDNESDAY

Hot and sunny. High temperatures will climb closer to the century mark with most of us in the upper 90s for the afternoon hours.

I don’t expect much in the way of any cloud cover or rain chances with winds staying fairly light out of the south.

EXTENDED WEATHER PATTERN

Nothing overly exciting is on the way. High pressure remains the dominant force for the foreseeable future. Luckily it won’t be centered on top of the area so high temps won’t climb to extremes.

In fact, with the high pressure situated to the north/west, we’ll see the opportunity for some chances of rain this coming weekend with a minor reduction in temperatures expected.
