FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines announced this week that it will reduce a “small number” of management and support-staff roles, mostly at its Fort Worth headquarters, the Associated Press is reporting.

The airline did not disclose precise figures for the job cuts, but reports suggest hundreds of corporate jobs will be eliminated, mostly affecting mid-management and non-union support functions across IT, communications and finance, according to Bloomberg.

American Airlines said the move is intended to “right-size” its organization to match current workloads and to improve efficiency, while still committing to investments that support the company’s long-term objectives, AP reported.

The workforce adjustment, Reuters said, comes on the heels of a quarterly net loss for American and as many airlines face pressure to trim costs and adjust staffing after rapid hiring during the post-pandemic surge in travel demand.
