Temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth are likely to again reach triple digits Wednesday, one day after the mercury officially reached 100 degrees a day prior at DFW International Airport.

Temperatures are predicted by the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office to break 100 degrees again Wednesday around 6 p.m.

This triple-digit milestone occurred about a week later than the region’s average date for temperatures to reach 100 degrees, July 1.

The date of arrival and frequency of triple-digit temperatures can be used as a measure of the intensity of a summer’s heat, according to the weather service. Last summer, Dallas-Fort Worth saw seven days of triple-digit heat, a significant decrease from a record high of 71 days in 2011, The Dallas Morning News previously reported

Wednesday’s low is forecast by the weather service to be 77 degrees, and the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, is set to hit 104.

Triple-digit temperatures could continue into Thursday, also currently forecast to reach a high of 100 degrees.

A sweltering weekend is set to follow. Though weekend temperatures are not forecast to surpass the high 90s, the heat index could reach as high as 107 Saturday. The forecast is not currently on track to warrant the issuing of a heat advisory, but North Texans should still take precautions to beat the heat. The CDC recommends staying hydrated by drinking a lot of water, seeking shade when possible, applying sunscreen and wearing a hat.

Non-severe thunderstorm chances remain in the forecast Wednesday before diminishing Thursday and Friday, according to the weather service, though chances are set to climb slightly again into the weekend.

Partly-cloudy skies and a light breeze are set to accompany the heat Wednesday, with cloud cover decreasing through the remainder of the week. Moderate humidity can also be expected, according to the weather service.
