The Rangers have a chance to restock their farm system — one that’s been picked apart by trades in the last year — in this weekend’s amateur draft. They selected seven players last summer who landed on The Dallas Morning News’ top 30 prospects list in the preseason, and through the first years of their careers, some have shown meaningful progress.
That’s what makes this a good time to update and rerank our preseason list ahead of the draft.
Here are prospects No. 30-21. Prospects 20-11 will be revealed July 9, and the top 10 will be revealed July 10.

No. 30: OF Maxton Martin
Age: 21 Preseason rank: 25 How he was acquired: 2023 MLB draft (11th round) out of Southridge High (Kennewick, Wash.)
Why he’s here: Martin has power, and he’s shown it with 11 home runs in 69 games at High-A Hub City this season, but his total offensive profile needs depth. His walk rate (8.4%), strikeout rate (25.3%) and average (.235) have each worsened year-over-year, though at 21 he is still young for the South Atlantic League.

No. 29: RHP Jake Barbee
Age: 19 Preseason rank: Unranked How he was acquired: 2025 MLB draft (12th round) out of Robinson High (Concord, N.C.)

Why he’s here: Barbee is a 6-3 righty with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, a starter’s profile and the kind of pitchability that profiles well in a rotation. The Rangers built him up slowly this season because of a forearm injury but he’s racked up 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings through his first four Arizona Complex League games.
No. 28: LHP Ben Abeldt
Age: 22 Preseason rank: 24 How he was acquired: 2025 MLB draft (fifth round) out of TCU
Why he’s here: The McKinney Boyd and TCU alum has a 4.86 ERA in his first nine career professional starts in the Arizona Complex League this season. The Rangers chose to develop the former fifth-round pick as a starter, and though his earned-run figures aren’t pretty in rookie ball, his .197 batting average against and 11.07 strikeouts per nine innings are.

No. 27: RHP Mason McConnaughey
Age: 22 Preseason rank: 30 How he was acquired: 2025 MLB draft (11th round) out of Pearl River CC
Why he’s here: McConnaughey has pitched in only two games in the Arizona Complex League since he returned from elbow surgery but has yet to allow a run. The Rangers selected him in the fourth round of last year’s draft and believe he profiles as a starter long term.
No. 26: RHP Frandel Pineda
Age: 17 Preseason rank: 28 How he was acquired: Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2025 to $350,000 bonus

Why he’s here: There’s a lot to like about Pineda, the long, projectable nephew of a former big leaguer. The Rangers signed him out of the Dominican Republic this winter, and in five Dominican Summer League starts, he has a 3.32 ERA. There’s belief that he has triple-digit velocity upside.

No. 25: RHP Izack Tiger
Age: 25 Preseason rank: 21 How he was acquired: 2023 MLB draft (seventh round) out of Butler CC
Why he’s here: The former seventh-round draft pick missed significant time because of elbow surgery, and in seven games split between the Arizona Complex League and High-A Hub City this season, he has a 6.57 ERA. Tiger’s stuff, like a triple-digit fastball, is easy to dream on, though age is not on his side.

No. 24: OF Hector Osorio
Age: 21 Preseason rank: Unranked How he was acquired: Signed out of Venezuela in 2022 to $47,500 bonus
Why he’s here: Osorio is the farm system’s breakout hitter this year with a .292/.417/.535 slash line, 18 home runs and more walks than strikeouts split between Low-A Hickory and High-A Hub City. The Venezuela native has undergone a physical transformation in his four years with the organization, added 10-15 pounds this winter, made tweaks to unlock greater bat speed in his swing and is reaping the benefits.

No. 23: RHP Emiliano Teodo
Age: 25 Preseason rank: 17 How he was acquired: Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2022 to $10,000 bonus

Why he’s here: Teodo struggled at Triple-A Round Rock last season and started this year slowly due to injury, but of late he’s begun to put it together. The flamethrowing righty posted a 2.38 ERA at Round Rock in June, but to present himself as a legitimate big league option this season, he must throw strikes. His 58% strike percentage and 18.8% walk rate are a tad too high for someone with his stuff.
No. 22: RHP Wilian Bormie
Age: 25 Preseason rank: Unranked How he was acquired: Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019
Why he’s here: Bormie has established himself as one of the organization’s best relief prospects this season. His velocity jumped into the triple digits after he moved from the rotation and added weight two seasons ago. He also boasts a high-80s slider that’s garnered a 33% whiff rate and has tinkered with a changeup grip to flesh out his arsenal. He’s posted a 2.00 ERA at Triple-A Round Rock this season with 63% strike percentage and is on a big-league track.
No. 21: OF Paulino Santana
Age: 19 Preseason rank: 23 How he was acquired: Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2023 to $1.3 million bonus
Why he’s here: Santana tore up the Dominican Summer League when he signed two years ago, and after a down performance stateside last season he’s made meaningful strides in his third professional campaign. He returned to Low-A Hickory after he ended the season there last year and has increased his walk rate (by more than 8%), lowered his strikeout rate (by nearly 16%) and has already notched a career-high eight home runs in 78 games.
