TEXAS — Zulia’s Kitchen in San Antonio is a regular gathering place for Venezuelans living in San Antonio. Sometimes there are celebrations, other times more solemn gatherings, but on one Friday night, it was all about getting to work.
Dozens of people were packing up donations headed to the country’s capital of Caracas, where two back-to-back earthquakes have claimed thousands of lives and left behind massive damage.
“It’s not a secret that our country doesn’t have the resources to help the people involved in this tragedy,” said restaurant owner Morelys Diaz.
Diaz says they have received thousands of items such as diapers, food and clothing. She is working with the group Global Empowerment Mission to send the donations to Florida before they’re taken to Caracas by the U.S. State Department.
