The largest stadium in Houston will have its third name of 2026 by the end of the summer.
The building formerly known as NRG Stadium—home of the Houston Texans—removed NRG branding to become Houston Stadium beginning in late May in coordination with the 2026 FIFA World Cup‘s arrival in Houston. FIFA mandated all stadiums hosting World Cup matches across North America remove corporate branding for the event, and as such, NRG Park workers removed all references to NRG Stadium before placing FIFA signage across multiple sides of the 72,000-seat building. But after Houston hosted the last of its seven World Cup matches last Saturday, the World Cup signage will soon be in the rearview mirror.
NRG Park workers began removing FIFA World Cup signage “immediately following the final [Houston match],” per an NRG Park spokesperson, a process that continued through Tuesday evening. World Cup signage will then be replaced by signage for “Reliant Stadium” in coordination with the stadium’s brand transition announced in April.
The home of the Texans was originally named Reliant Stadium for the franchise’s first 12 seasons from 2002-13. It then transitioned to NRG Stadium beginning in 2014, but will now go back to its original name following a study commissioned by NRG. When asked which stadium name they preferred, survey participants overwhelmingly supported Reliant Stadium, which earned a whopping 90 percent of votes.
“Fans have told us what this place means to them. For many, it’s always been Reliant Stadium,” NRG executive Brad Bentley said in a statement in April. “We heard them loud and clear. Reliant Stadium is back.”
The transition from World Cup signage to Reliant Stadium signage will continue through July. NRG Park said Tuesday it hopes to complete its signage transition plan in early August, in advance of the Texans’ first home preseason game.
