EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 21-year-old man from Fabens has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run that happened on June 18 in Far East El Paso and killed a 76-year-old man.
According to the El Paso Police Department, Abraham Sosa Castro has been identified as the suspect and was arrested Tuesday on suspicion that on June 18, at around 11:30 p.m., he fled after crashing into a vehicle on Loop 375 (near Pellicano Drive), a crash that ultimately killed the other driver, Manuel Olivas Contreras.
This comes after police had asked the public for help in finding the suspect on June 20, just a couple of days after the crash happened.

On the night of the crash, Contreras was initially reported to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries; however, police later learned he died at a hospital the next morning.
Investigators believe Castro was driving a 2023 Cadillac CT4 south on Loop 375 and speeding when he allegedly rear-ended Contreras’ 2019 Nissan Sentra, then left his vehicle there and ran away.
According to police statistics, Contreras’ death is the 22nd traffic death of 2026, compared to 29 at the same time in 2025.
Jail records show Castro was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail on Wednesday and charged with a collision involving death.
According to jail records, as of Wednesday afternoon, Castro remains in jail under a $500,000 bond.
