EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Families in El Paso will have a chance to celebrate “Summerween” this week as El Paso Public Libraries hosts a free, Halloween-themed luau aimed at connecting residents with library programs and services.
The Summerween Spooky Luau event will be held at the Jose Cisneros Branck Library this Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
According to the El Paso Public Libraries, the event will include a costume contest, food trucks, and vendors, and the first 300 guests will also receive free library merchandise.
“It’s a combination of summer and Halloween. So we’re going to have a little festival. We’re gonna have vendors, we have exhibitors, we’re actually going to show a movie, we’ll have giveaways, so it’s just a free event all around for the community,” said Erika Fibela of El Paso Public Libraries.
Organizers said events like this help introduce the community to resources available through the library system.
“Bringing these big events to the community, free events to the community, provides us the opportunity to say, ‘hey, we have a high school diploma program, we also have knitting classes, ‘ so we show them all of our services when providing these big events,” Fibela said.
