Not to go full Adam Sandler here, but the last thing any vacationer should worry about is “high-quality H2O”. No, beaches won’t be running dry, but booking a dreamy hotel room with the perfect water pressure or an Airbnb to run up someone else’s utility bill could turn out to be a buzzkill instead of a highlight.
Per CNN, the “Sparkling City by the Sea” is steadily heading toward a crisis. Unlike America’s most notorious water catastrophe in Flint, Michigan back in 2014, where it seemed every residents’ faucet dispensed unsightly brown gunk, the taps of the “Gulf Coast Capital” may not flow at all anything unless officials act fast.

Known for its laid-back vibes, quintessential southern hospitality, and highly underrated beaches much more beautiful than its ‘Lone Star’ counterpart Galveston, Corpus has long been a staple to avoid the crowds of Florida and save some serious skrilla while you’re at it.
With name-brand hotels like Omni Hotel & Resorts anchoring the vibrant skyline and A-list performers like Ella Langley coming through town, there’s no denying the appeal of Corpus. Factor in the freedom of being able to score literal front-row parking on the beach with a proper permit, or even opting for an open-air Moke to embrace more sun and salty breeze, it’s easy to see the city’s appeal.
But, is now the right time to scour flights and hotels and actually book a trip?
While the website notes there are Stage 3 Water Restrictions in effect, fortunately, 2026 will avoid the shortage once feared to become a ‘Level 1’ emergency. Years of drought and increased industrial use have left the city’s water supply dwindling, but the problem remains that no clear-cut solution has been implemented.

Brainstorming isn’t the only ‘storm’ brewing in Corpus; an actual storm may have saved the day by pushing the city’s water crisis back to September 2027.
That didn’t stop Texas’s own Governor, Greg Abbott, from calling out the city of Corpus Christi just last month. In response to Corpus’s attempted solution to build a new desalination treatment plant, Abbott was quoted as saying, “When courage and leadership were badly needed, the Corpus Christi City Council once again completely failed the citizens they represent”.
A rare rainstorm may have granted Corpus more time, but as it stands today, there is no single long-term solution to ensure visitors can wash the sand off their toes after a fun day spent at such hotspots as Mustang Island and Whitecap Beach.
