Temperatures hit triple digits Tuesday for the first time in Dallas-Fort Worth this summer. After fluttering in and out of the forecast for most of June, it seems 100-degree highs could finally be here to stay.
Thursday could be the hottest day of the summer in Dallas thus far. According to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, temperatures are predicted to reach a high of 102 degrees.
Thursday’s low is expected to drop only to 81 degrees, and the daytime heat index, or “feels-like” temperature, set to reach 105.
Sweltering heat is in the forecast through the weekend. Friday and Saturday’s high temperatures are forecast by the weather service to be 99 degrees, and heat indexes as high as 105 will stick around.
In extreme heat, the CDC recommends taking precautions including drinking a lot of water, staying in the shade when being outside for prolonged periods of time is unavoidable, applying sunscreen, wearing a hat and knowing the warning signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion.
Thursday will also bring a brief respite from this week’s isolated thunderstorms, with a zero chance for precipitation, according to the weather service. Marginal rain chances are set to return Saturday before climbing to a 44% chance of showers and storms Sunday.
Sunny skies and breezy winds are expected through the rest of the week, as is moderate humidity, according to the weather service.
