LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Charges against a former Lubbock Police Department civilian employee have been dismissed after he was accused of injuring an elderly registered sex offender back in July.
The request to drop the case against Daniel Diaz-Gonzalez was filed on Thursday, Oct. 30 in the 364th District Court.
In August, Diaz-Gonzalez was arrested and charged with injury to the elderly.
Investigators say shortly after 10 a.m. on July 24, Diaz-Gonzalez confronted 67-year-old Steven Sardinta in the lobby at LPD headquarters. Court documents indicate he reacted to something Sardinta said.
Surveillance footage shows Diaz-Gonzalez pushing Sardinta to the ground after the two got into a verbal fight.
Sardinta filed a complaint that same day stating he suffered bruising and bodily injury after he was pushed down.
“This is an internal employment matter, and the City of Lubbock does not provide comment on internal employment matters. Mr. Diaz-Gonzalez was terminated due to his violation of City of Lubbock Personnel Policies,” the Lubbock Police Department said in a statement.
Diaz-Gonzalez was fired from the Lubbock Police Department on September 4. He served as the Sex Offender Registration Coordinator since July 2023.
