CCBA Chairman Sanjiv Yajnik reflects on the partnerships, stewardship and shared responsibility that helped shape one of America’s fastest-growing regions
Collin County’s growth story is often told through what people can see. New corporate campuses. Expanding roadways. Thriving schools. New neighborhoods stretching across once-open fields.
But beneath every major project and milestone lies something less visible and arguably more important: collaboration.
For decades, business leaders, educators, civic officials and community advocates have worked together to guide Collin County’s growth with intention. As the region continues to attract new residents, employers and investment, many local leaders believe that the spirit of partnership may be the county’s greatest competitive advantage.
For Sanjiv Yajnik, chairman of the Collin County Business Alliance and president of Financial Services at Capital One, that collaborative spirit is what future generations should remember most.
The story is part of Collin County Celebrates, a countywide initiative launched by the Collin County Business Alliance in honor of its 15th anniversary and the nation’s 250th anniversary.
A Legacy Worth Preserving
When asked what local achievement should be placed inside a time capsule to be opened during America’s 300th anniversary in 2076, Yajnik didn’t point to a single building, company headquarters or infrastructure project.
Instead, he pointed to the relationships that helped make those accomplishments possible.
“The single most valuable thing we could pass down is the profound spirit of collaboration we have built across the region,” Yajnik says.
If he were creating that time capsule, he says it would include the founding charter of the Collin County Business Alliance alongside a photograph of the people who helped shape the community together.
Fifteen years ago, the organization was created around a simple but powerful idea: bringing business leaders, educators, public officials and community partners together around a common purpose.
That purpose remains just as relevant today: to drive regional impact in key areas ensuring the vibrancy of our community’s future.
Established in 2011, the Collin County Business Alliance is composed of business leaders who believe they have a responsibility to act now to shape a vibrant community, serving as a catalyst to address key regional priorities including water, workforce development and mobility.
“Thriving communities don’t happen by accident,” Yajnik says. “They require careful stewardship, a commitment to investing in our neighborhoods and a shared dedication to keeping the community’s well-being at the center of every decision.”
Leadership Beyond The Boardroom
Yajnik believes leadership begins with recognizing that business success and community success are deeply connected.
Over the last two decades, Yajnik has watched the region mature from a collection of rapidly growing suburbs into one of the nation’s most dynamic economic centers. This transformation has been marked by the county’s population growing to more than 1 million residents and welcoming thousands of new businesses. Recognizing that this corporate migration required intentional stewardship, he founded the CCBA in 2011 to ensure business leaders were actively partnering with public officials to keep the country growing in a sustainable way.
“What Collin County did was give me the opportunity to put that belief into action,” Yajnik says.
Working alongside educators, civic leaders, nonprofit organizations and fellow business executives reinforced the importance of partnership and long-term thinking.
His philosophy is straightforward. “Don’t be a guest in your community — be a strong anchor.”
That mindset has guided his involvement through the Collin County Business Alliance and shaped his view of what responsible leadership looks like in a fast-growing region.
Rather than standing on the sidelines, Yajnik believes leaders have a responsibility to actively participate in building stronger communities.
The Challenge Of Future Growth
Few expect Collin County’s growth to slow anytime soon, with long-term projections estimating the population will climb to more than 1.4 million residents by 2030. To ensure our infrastructure keeps pace, the CCBA has moved from conversation to action, successfully advocating for critical water infrastructure funding through statewide measures like Proposition 4 and establishing the nonpartisan Collin County Votes initiative to increase voter turnout in crucial local elections. For Yajnik, proactively securing these core pillars of mobility, sustainable water resources and workforce readiness is the ultimate test of our collective stewardship.
For Yajnik, growth itself is not the challenge. The challenge is preserving the values that made growth possible.
“My deepest hope for future leaders is that they preserve the foundational spirit of unity and civic responsibility that built this community,” he says.
As the county continues to evolve, he believes collaboration will become even more important. Future leaders will need to continue bringing together business, education and civic sectors to solve complex challenges and prepare for future opportunities.
The solutions may adapt, but the approach should remain the same.
“Never lose the humility to listen, the courage to innovate thoughtfully and the commitment to ensuring Collin County remains an exceptionally vibrant place to live and work for generations to come.”

The American Dream, Local Edition
Discussions about the American dream often focus on individual achievement. Yajnik sees it differently. For him, the dream is rooted in opportunity, but strengthened by community.
“The American dream is rooted in opportunity, community and the belief that hard work can create a better future for the next generation,” he says.
In Collin County, that opportunity is supported by strong schools, growing industries, entrepreneurship and a shared commitment to maintaining a high quality of life.
Yajnik points to the unique mix of family-owned businesses, global corporations, educators and civic leaders who work side by side to strengthen the region.
What makes Collin County special, he says, is not simply economic success. It is the collective commitment to building something lasting.
“It is a place where everyone takes pride in building a vibrant community for the next generation,” he says.
Looking Ahead
The story of Collin County has always been about growth. But perhaps its most important story is how that growth happened.
Again and again, the region’s biggest successes have come from people choosing to work together rather than apart. Business leaders partnering with educators. Cities collaborating with developers. Community organizations working alongside civic institutions.
As Collin County looks toward the next 50 years, Yajnik believes the region’s future will depend on preserving that spirit of partnership.
Because while roads, buildings and businesses may define a skyline, collaboration is what ultimately defines a community.
