Plano police announced the arrest of a Dallas man Wednesday in connection with a child sexual abuse investigation involving an elementary school student.
According to authorities, officers executed an arrest warrant on July 8 for 64-year-old Paul Campbell on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Detectives say they obtained the warrant after investigating a student alleging inappropriate physical contact at Brinker Elementary School in the Plano Independent School District, where Campbell worked as a teacher.
It’s unclear when the incident took place. However, Plano ISD said in a statement it is aware of the arrest and described the alleged conduct as “reprehensible” and inconsistent with the district’s expectations for employees. The district said it is fully cooperating with the Plano PD as the investigation continues.
Campbell is currently being held in the Plano City Jail. Police say the investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by the department’s Special Victims Unit.
District officials said they have also taken action regarding Campbell’s employment in accordance with Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code and reported the case to the Texas Education Agency and the State Board for Educator Certification, as required by law.
Out of respect for the student and family involved, and because the investigation is ongoing, the district said it will not release additional details.
