LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A man arrested in connection with a fatal 2021 rollover at Buffalo Springs Lake has pleaded guilty.
On July 3, 2021, police said Dominic Pequeno was driving a Jeep along the OHV trails at night, at night, when access to the trails was restricted. The Jeep belonged to 38-year-old Elizabeth Peters Teichroeb of Seminole, who was riding without a seatbelt in the backseat.
Pequeno was reportedly under the influence of alcohol while driving the vehicle. Investigators stated he veered off the trail to the right, then corrected to the left and stopped with the front driver’s side wheel hanging over the edge.
Pequeno reportedly tried to turn right and drive the Jeep back onto the trail; however, the vehicle began to roll down the hill before stopping in a ravine. Teichroeb was ejected from the vehicle.
Court documents stated Pequeno “left the crash scene, where Teichroeb lay dead or dying.” He reportedly walked toward FM 835, stepping over a fence, before turning south and away from Buffalo Springs Lake.
Teichroeb’s body was found the following day after a man crashed his ATV in a nearby spot. The man was uninjured but noticed the crashed Jeep and called authorities.
Pequeno was arrested on June 26, 2024, nearly three years after the crash.
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, Pequeno pleaded guilty to failure to stop and render aid resulting in death. He was sentenced to six years of probation, and as a condition of his probation he must spend 48 hours in jail each year on the Techroeb’s birthday.
