LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A now 21-year-old man pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday in the death of 68-year-old Monte Lynch and was sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication with a requirement that he serve 30 days in jail.
The case stems from a May 31, 2024, incident in which Lubbock police said Lynch was riding a motorcycle when he became involved in an altercation with Juan Reyna, who investigators said pursued Lynch and intentionally struck him and the motorcycle near N. Elkhart Ave. and Auburn St. before fleeing.
Police initially responded to a reported crash near Auburn St. and N. Slide Rd. Lynch was taken to a hospital for treatment.
On June 19, 2024, Lynch was found dead in the 4700 block of CR 6300 in Lubbock. The Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled his death a homicide, and the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Lubbock Police Department’s Forensics Investigation Unit investigated.
A warrant was issued, and Reyna was arrested Nov. 8, 2024, in the 700 block of E. 34th St. police said.
