Black Family Hospitality, the family owned restaurant group behind the famous Austin-based Terry Black’s Barbecue in Texas, officially announced a major growth initiative Thursday. According to a press release, and as previously reported, the group will expand its presence across Texas and Tennessee over the next 18 months while also introducing some new concepts to its portfolio.
But really, the important bit of news Thursday is that Black Family Hospitality provided more details regarding when it would open its Houston location of Terry Black’s: sometime in August. In September, BFH will open another Terry Black’s in New Braunfels, followed by one in December in San Antonio and another in early 2027 in Nashville, Tenn.
As previously reported, a BFH concept called Opal’s Oysters, which was born in Waco, will also head to Nashville.
Terry Black’s has been having a grand old time lately. It unofficially became the mascot for Texas barbecue for out-of-towners and foreign nationals, and especially influencers. In late June, Texas Monthly’s Daniel Vaughn reported the Dallas outpost had become one of the big winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup boom—the prophetic economic shot in the arm from the influx of tourists that were coming to Texas for the games.
The Houston location has been hotly anticipated since it was announced in 2025. The Black family bought up an entire block in Houston’s Heights neighborhood for its upcoming restaurant and a boutique hotel. The restaurant will open at 1311 N. Shepherd Dr.
The Black Family also on Thursday promoted its newly opened concepts that weren’t barbecue: Big Bob’s Bowling and Glory Roll Sushi & Cocktails, which are both coming to Lockhart.
“Our family has never measured success by the number of restaurants we open,” co-founder Mark Black said in a statement. “We’ve always believed in creating places where people gather, celebrate and build traditions. Every concept offers a different experience, exceptional food, genuine hospitality and meaningful connections.”
