It has been a little more than two months since the popular Tex-Mex restaurant Chacho’s vacated its space on a busy stretch of Houston’s Uptown neighborhood. But change is already here for the property, with a well-known steakhouse chain reportedly bringing a location, and more competition, to the area.
Sal e Brasa, a Brazilian steakhouse concept born in 1993 in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, is opening its second Texas location at the former Chacho’s space, 6006 Westheimer Rd., just a 0.2-mile walk from fellow churrascaria Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse. A spokesperson for Sal e Brasa told Chron they anticipate opening the Houston location by the end of the year. Currently, the team is reconfiguring the floor plan, adding private dining spaces and shifting the kitchen.
This would be the first Sal e Brasa inside Houston proper. The company behind Sal e Brasa arrived in Texas with the brand Avenida Brazil Churrascaria, launching in the Houston area with locations in Clear Lake, Stafford and The Woodlands before expanding to San Antonio in 2025. The Woodlands location of Avenida closed in early 2025, but around the same time, the company opened a Sal e Brasa nearby.
Like other Brazilian steakhouses, Sal e Brasa offers a rodízio—or all-you-can-eat—menu, with beef, chicken and fish, plus vegetables and sides being consistently paraded out to tables. Prices in The Woodlands are $39.95 (weekday dinner, lunch) and $49.95 (weekend dinner). Children’s meals are priced cheaper, and there’s a salad bar and even sushi options.
As for the space, 6006 Westhiemer was previously the home of the fast-casual Tex-Mex restaurant Chacho’s. After years of expansion, the San Antonio-based business encountered legal troubles to start 2026. At some point earlier this year, the Westheimer location of Chacho’s closed, and a message was left on its menu board asking folks to visit remaining area locations at 5350 North Fwy. and 2700 S. Loop W.
