Dallas police are searching for a 19-year-old, Jordan Hooker, who they say shot and killed a mother of four, Kayli Lopez, back in February. Two people were already arrested in May: 22-year-old Jaylon Hooker and 21-year-old Mycana Price. Records show Price is no longer in jail.
NBC 5 spoke with the woman’s family about their continued search for justice.
“Five months after her death, the pain is still raw,” Elaine Lopez said.
Elaine said her life is quieter since her sister was killed while driving. Elaine believes Lopez was not the intended target.
“She definitely was not the person being targeted. Unfortunately, I would say she was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Elaine Lopez said.
According to an affidavit, a witness saw the suspect’s vehicle behind Kayli Lopez on Zang Boulevard near the intersection of Illinois Ave., with multiple people shooting into her car.
Elaine said Kayli’s car had 36 bullets fired at it.
“That’s kind of when it becomes more reality; when you walk into a courtroom and see this person face to face, it’s really difficult,” Elaine Lopez said.
The Lopez family said they still have questions, including why a 21-year-old man injured in the shooting was with her sister that night.
They’re asking anyone who knows Hooker’s location to come forward.
“I don’t know if it was a mistake, a mistaken vehicle. I’m not sure, but she definitely didn’t deserve this. They do deserve whatever’s going to come to them,” Elaine Lopez said.
