In Sunday’s (7/5) KTSM (El Paso, TX), Dave Burge reports, “The El Paso Symphony Orchestra is getting ready for its 96th season. Maestro Bohuslav Rattay, the sixth conductor in El Paso Symphony Orchestra’s (EPSO) long history, is currently in his 13th season and will once again lead the orchestra…. The classical series will open … with an innovative visual concerto titled ‘Mágico – The Magic of Mexico,’ featuring music and images of Mexico’s colorful heart, weaving together a vibrant tapestry of the people, places, and everyday life across 18 states. The EPSO, led by conductor Rattay, will perform Moncayo’s ‘Tierra Temporal’ and Márquez’s ‘Danzón No. 2,’ set to visuals by photographer and multimedia artist Nicholas Bardonnay, projected on screen.” The remainder of the season includes works by Richard Strauss, Mahler, Ravel, Poulenc, Peter Boyer, Gershwin, and Dvořák; and appearances by soprano Meechot Marrero (Strauss’ Four Last Songs and Mahler Symphony No. 4) and Broadway actor and singer, Arielle Jacobs (“Christmas on Broadway”).
