Two people were detained after a fight inside a south-side Dick’s Sporting Goods escalated into gunfire, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
SAPD Sgt. Jones said officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to reports of a shooting in progress.
Based on the preliminary investigation and witness statements, two males entered the store and began fighting a third male. During the altercation, the third person pulled out a handgun and fired several shots before all three people fled, police said.
Despite the gunfire, no one was injured.
Investigators recovered two shell casings inside the store, though SAPD said that number could change as detectives continue processing the scene.
Everyone inside the business evacuated after the shots were fired. Dick’s Sporting Goods temporarily went into lockdown as a precaution before reopening, police said.
Officers later detained two people away from the store, but investigators were still working to determine whether they were involved in the incident. The third person had not been identified.
Police said the two people in custody are both under 21 years old. Investigators believe the three individuals may have known one another, but that has not been confirmed.
No charges have been filed. SAPD said detectives will determine whether any charges are appropriate after interviewing those involved and reviewing the evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
