LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) – Two men were killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash that happened at the intersection of FM 179 and FM 2641 around 4 p.m.
The preliminary report from Texas DPS says a 2011 Toyota Camry, driven by Sammy Zapata, 19, of Lubbock, was traveling eastbound on FM 2641 and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with FM 179.
A 2022 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Burl Trotter, 87, of Littlefield, was traveling northbound on FM 179 when the Camry entered the intersection and struck the driver’s side of the pickup.
Trotter was pronounced dead at the scene. Zapata was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
