HILL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) – A large grass fire near Itasca, Texas burned about 17 acres Tuesday afternoon in Hill County, prompting a multi-agency response, according to the Hill County Emergency Management District.

Officials said crews were dispatched at approximately 1:05 p.m. to the 300 block of HCR 4434 in Itasca.
Responding agencies included the Itasca Fire Department, Covington Fire Rescue, Hillsboro Fire/Rescue, Grandview Fire, and Hill EMS.

Firefighters quickly stopped the forward progression of the fire after arriving on scene, officials said. Because of gusty winds, crews were still on scene as of 3:30 p.m. mopping up hot spots to prevent flare-ups.
Officials estimated the fire burned approximately 17 acres.

The Hill County Emergency Management District also noted the response marked Covington Fire Rescue Utility 115’s first call for service.
