The restaurant’s history stretches back decades. It originally began as a small gift shop, deli, and bakery at Galleria Dallas, opened by Mikhail Frumkin after he immigrated to Dallas from Belarus. It has remained with the family ever since. In 2002, Taste of Europe opened in Arlington, offering food and products from all across Eastern Europe.
The local staple gained national attention in 2012 when it was featured on the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.” During the episode, host Guy Fieri highlighted the restaurant’s potato pancakes, cabbage rolls, pastries, cakes and crepes.
“Taste of Europe proves that some of the city’s best treasures are tucked away in the most unexpected places,” Fieri said of the establishment. The restaurant is also recognized on the Food Network’s “Top Places to Eat.”
Following the announcement of the upcoming closure, longtime patrons took to social media to share their sadness and fond memories of the Arlington staple.
“Thanks for the special times and good food. Yall will be missed,” one Facebook user commented.
Another patron wrote, “Thank you for the food memories,” while another simply added, “Ohh noooo.”
The restaurant expressed its appreciation for the years of community backing as it prepares for its final weeks of service.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and wonderful memories you’ve shared with us,” the restaurant stated. “It has been our pleasure serving you. Thank you for being a part of our journey.”
