Dozens of long-range and short-term road improvement projects are planned across North Texas to increase mobility as the region booms.
State and regional transportation planners are seeking public input to determine which projects are most needed as they develop 10-year plans to address immediate needs.
The Texas Department of Transportation is working on a draft of the 2027 Unified Transportation Project — a blueprint for more than $95 billion in funding for road programs over the next decade.
The goal is to make progress on existing, high-priority projects under development, officials said.
“Hearing from Texans and our transportation partners is vital to help this plan improve Texans’ connectivity to communities, jobs and family, as well as enhance safety, quality of life and innovation throughout the state,” Marc Williams, TxDOT executive director, said in a statement.
Williams said public feedback is vital as projects earmarked under the robust 10-year plan will focus on improving safety, reducing congestion and enhancing connectivity to roads and highways. In addition, the plan supports aviation, rail, freight, bicycle and pedestrian projects that advance connectivity.
Residents can submit comments to TxDOT via online forms through Aug. 3. Forms are available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese, Hindi, Mandarin and Vietnamese.
A virtual public hearing on the 2027 draft plan is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 29. People can join the meeting by calling 800-717-1738.
In August, the Texas Transportation Commission plans to vote on the draft at its scheduled meeting.
North Texas meeting
Transportation planners with the Arlington-based North Central Texas Council of Governments also want public input for a regional 10-year plan. They will hold a meeting at noon July 13 at the organization’s office at 616 Six Flags Drive.
North Texans can view the meeting online at PublicInput.com/nctcogJuly26 and participate by calling 855-925-2801, entering code 3241. The organization, which monitors more than 12,000 lane miles of pavement and 3,900 bridges in North Texas, will accept public comments through Aug. 11.
The group plans to spend more than $217.3 billion for transportation improvements over the next 25 years with the North Texas population expected to reach more than 12 million by 2050.
NCTCOG staff will discuss major projects for North Texas planned from 2027 to 2036 as well as two funding initiatives related to transportation technologies.
Planners will also present the North Texas Advanced Air Mobility Charging Infrastructure Call for Projects, a funding initiative that will provide electric aircraft infrastructure to public-use airports in the region to support vertical take-off vehicles such as air taxis.
North Texans who plan to use the Trinity Railway Express passenger train to attend the meeting can pay $6 for round-trip rides from the CentrePort/DFW Airport Station to the council of governments office through the Arlington Transportation app. That app can be downloaded at ArlingtonTX.gov/ondemand.
About 5,500 responses were collected as part of a widespread household travel survey in 2025, officials said.
