Authorities continued searching for answers Saturday after a 7-month-old girl remained missing. This came a day after her injured mother was found inside a vacant south-side home, while investigators also examined skeletal remains discovered nearby.
An Amber Alert was issued Thursday for 7-month-old Ozana Cisneros and her 19-year-old mother, Maximina Cisneros.
On Friday afternoon, San Antonio police located Maximina Cisneros injured inside a vacant home on Parkview Drive near Concepcion Park. The infant was not with her.
Cisneros was taken to a hospital, where she was reported in stable condition.
Later Friday night, officers discovered skeletal remains in Concepcion Park. Police cautioned that it was not immediately known whether the remains were human or connected to the disappearance.
“At this time it is unsure whether it is a human or if it is even indeed related to this case,” a police spokesperson said Friday.
Investigators returned to the park Saturday to continue searching the area but did not announce whether they found any additional evidence connected to the case.
Residents who live near the vacant home said the investigation has left them unsettled.
One neighbor, who asked not to be identified because of safety concerns, said he had frequently seen Maximina Cisneros walking through the neighborhood with Ozana and another man. However, he said he had not seen the baby for about three weeks.
“In the first days I saw her, but after that I don’t know what happened because I no longer saw the baby, just them,” the neighbor said.
He said the change caught his attention.
“I thought it was odd it was just them coming,” he said.
Authorities also confirmed a connection between the Amber Alert investigation and an arrest made Friday morning, hours before Maximina Cisneros was found.
According to police, officers arrested 24-year-old Isaiah Marquis Lopez in connection with a June 9 shooting at the vacant Parkview Drive home. No one was injured in the shooting.
An arrest warrant states Lopez had been squatting at the property. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators have confirmed Lopez is connected in some way to the Amber Alert investigation but have not disclosed the nature of that connection. He has not been charged in connection with Ozana’s disappearance.
As investigators continue searching for the missing infant, neighbors say they are hoping for answers.
“The baby is not to blame for anything. It’s a baby—you have to take care of them,” the neighbor said.
San Antonio police had not released any additional updates on the investigation since Friday night.
