Jason Aldean is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at one of his newest collaborations while joining Elaina Smith as a guest co-host on Backstage Country. During his time on the show, Aldean opens up about his friendship with fellow country artist John Morgan and the story behind their collaboration, “Friends Like That.”

He recalled how they met through another songwriter, John Edwards. “John introduced, I think, Kurt [Allison] and Tully [Kennedy] to him, who were my bandmates, and they wrote with him a couple times and just called me up and said, ‘You need to check this kid out.’ And so I had him send a couple things and just had him basically get in front of his phone and just play something acoustic and sing it just to see if it was as good, you know, raw like that as it was in the studio.”
He admitted, “And it just kind of blew me away, man. I loved his voice. I loved his songwriting and what he was doing. And so we signed him to a publishing deal, signed him to a record deal and really wanted to start working with him. And it’s been fun. I mean, he’s been a big part of the success we’ve had over the last, you know, three records.”

Aldean featured on Morgan’s “Friends Like That,” which became Morgan’s first No. 1. “We knew he had it as a writer and what he brought to the table as a writer. But I really believed in him as an artist, too. And. And he’s a great musician, great guitar player, great singer, great writer. I mean, he’s got it all. So it’s been fun to kind of help him over the last few years.”
He added, “It’s been a cool relationship, friendship, but also a working relationship too.”
