That year, Cedar Hill finished fourth in District 11-6A but won three playoff games and reached a regional final before losing to rival DeSoto. This year, Cedar Hill has already clinched a playoff spot and the No. 2 seed from 11-6A in the Division II playoff bracket, but it will finish fourth in 11-6A unless it can upset three-time state champion Duncanville on Thursday.

Harker Heights won the District 12-6A title and has won five in a row after nondistrict losses to Dripping Springs and Midlothian. Harker Heights has been eliminated from the playoffs by a team currently in District 11-6A each of the last five years, losing first-round games to Duncanville in 2020, to DeSoto in 2021 and 2023 and to Lancaster last year and falling in a regional final to DeSoto in 2022.

Lovejoy at Argyle

7 p.m. Friday Nov. 14 at Argyle’s Eagle Stadium

Argyle won its fourth consecutive district title since moving up to Class 5A starting with the 2022 season. The District 3-5A Division II champion is headed to the playoffs for the 22nd straight season and has won at least eight games for the 17th year in a row.

Argyle is used to long playoff runs, winning a state title in 2020 and reaching the state semifinals in 2022 and 2024. Argyle beat Lovejoy 42-17 in a regional final last year.

Todd Dodge, a seven-time state champion, has now made the playoffs in each of his first two years at Lovejoy and has reached the playoffs in each of his last 10 seasons as a head coach. Since 2000, the only two years he missed the playoffs were in 2012 and 2013 at Marble Falls, and he won all seven of his state titles from 2002 to 2021 before retiring for two years.
