Inflation is an ongoing pressure that many feel when grocery shopping, but you tend to feel it a little less at the discount store Joe V’s Smart Shop, which H-E-B is, fittingly, rapidly expanding throughout Texas. According to H-E-B, two new Joe V’s are coming to the Houston area in 2027.
The 57,000-square-foot stores will be located near the City Park community at 1227 W. Orem Drive near Highway 288, and in Humble at 19611 US-59 near Interstate 69. Construction is already underway, with the Humble spot due in early 2027 and City Park later that year.
Joe V’s first opened in 2010 on the heels of the Great Recession and tends to differ from H-E-B by offering more budget-friendly prices, often due to a smaller selection and a warehouse-like environment. Though you’ll still find staples like butter tortillas and Sushiya as well.
What’s unique about these two upcoming Joe V’s is that they’ll be the first two locations to feature a different H-E-B staple: South Flo Pizza, which will be handcrafted in-house daily as an available grab-and-go meal option.
H-E-B has opened 14 Joe V’s locations across the Houston and Dallas areas, most of which are in Houston, where the format got its start. This announcement comes on the heels of plans for yet another Joe V’s in Houston, currently being constructed at South Houston plaza in the Edgebrook area.
Low prices are the overarching message at Joe V’s locations, where you’ll often encounter signage that says things like “Because we buy a lot, you save a lot,” and “Low prices today, low prices tomorrow.” As much as those messages are for customers, they’re clearly aimed at other discount stores like Aldi and Walmart as well, with H-E-B seeming to position Joe V’s as another alternative.
