In an emotional interview with Univision’s Lidia Terrazas, brothers Ronaldo Salgado and Lorenzo Salgado Jr. described their father as a devoted husband, hardworking provider and loving father while renewing calls for accountability in the fatal shooting.
The brothers said they want investigators to publicly identify the agents involved and explain what led to the encounter.
“Everyone needs to know who the people are that killed my father, and there have to be consequences,” one of the brothers said during the interview.
The family also questioned reports that the agents involved were reassigned to another state shortly after the shooting, saying they believe those agents should remain in Texas to cooperate with investigators.
“They have to stay here to face the consequences here. They need to speak for the investigation,” one brother said.
The brothers also said the family still has not received many of their father’s personal belongings.
“We still haven’t received his body. We don’t know anything about the van, his tools, his wallet, his cellphone or even his lunch,” one brother said.
Beyond their calls for accountability, the brothers remembered their father as a man who worked tirelessly to support his family, loved music and singing, and had been married to their mother for nearly 40 years. They said he instilled the values of hard work, education and generosity, often helping relatives and members of his hometown in Mexico.
The brothers said they believe their father would have cooperated with law enforcement had he known the people confronting him were federal agents. Instead, they questioned why officers in an unmarked vehicle approached him so aggressively, noting that ICE has acknowledged Salgado Araujo was not the intended target of the operation.
The family said they are seeking more than an apology. They want a full account of what happened, including a detailed timeline of the shooting, the identities of the agents involved and an explanation for why deadly force was used.
They also expressed gratitude for the support they have received from the Houston community, the Mexican government and advocacy groups, saying their father’s story has resonated with families who see him as someone who embodied hard work, sacrifice and devotion to his loved ones.
