A ground stop at George Bush Intercontinental Airport went into effect shortly after 11:20 a.m. and is currently scheduled to remain in place until 12:45 p.m. Departure delays are averaging about 45 minutes and are expected to increase as storms continue to impact operations.
William P. Hobby Airport was placed under a ground stop just before 11:30 a.m., with the order expected to remain in effect until 1 p.m.
The stops are the only two weather-related stops being reported by the FAA at this time.
Even still, the Dallas-Fort Worth International airport currently has the most delayed or canceled flights in the nation at 132, according to Flight Aware’s Misery Map. Intercontinental comes in third with 54, which Hobby rounds out the top 10 at 24.
According to the FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center, delays at Hobby jumped from an average of 12 minutes to an average of 49 minutes, while delays at Intercontinental were nonexistant before the ground stop. They are now averaging around 35 minutes.
