Texas’ biggest grocery chain has just announced new affordable grocery stores set for Space City. San Antonio-based H-E-B is planning to open two Joe V’s Smart Shops in the Houston area.
The first store will be located near Houston’s City Park community at 1227 W. Orem Drive near Highway 288 and the second will be in Humble at 19611 US-59 near Interstate 69. These two new Joe V’s come as the grocer continues its plans to expand its successful low-price value grocery store concept across the Lone Star State.
The two locations will also be the first Joe V’s Smart Shops to offer H-E-B South Flo Pizza, which serves fresh, handcrafted pizzas served in-house daily and as a grab-and-go meal option. Both Houston stores will also offer Home Delivery to serve even more customers throughout the community and surrounding neighborhoods.
H-E-B said work is already underway on both 57,000-square-foot stores, which are expected to open next year. Joe V’s Humble is slated for early 2027 and the Orem Drive store is set for a late 2027 debut.
Each new Houston-area store will employ more than 200 Joe V’s workers or partners.
Founded by H-E-B in 2010 in Houston, Joe V’s Smart Shops is a low-price grocery store brand designed to compete with discount chains, according to the company. While the concept has a smaller footprint than a traditional H-E-B, Joe V’s offers everyday essentials, fresh produce and in-store cut meats, breads and more.
The chain operates 14 locations, primarily in Houston (11), and three in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Joe V’s Smart Shop currently employs more than 2,700 people across more than a dozen stores in the Houston and Dallas areas.
