Rainy weather during the first half of this week could cause minor flooding in the Houston area, including on Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The region could see rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour Monday, said Jimmy Fowler, a meteorologist for the weather service’s Houston and Galveston office.
“We may see some pockets of heavier rainfall, especially this afternoon,” Fowler said Monday morning. “Wherever those pockets of heavier rainfall develop, we may see some of that localized minor flooding and street ponding of area roads, especially in areas of poor drainage.”

Houston’s forecast for Monday and Tuesday calls for 80% chances of rain each day, with daily high temperatures in the mid- to high-80s and lows in the mid-70s. There’s a 50% chance of rain on Wednesday, according to the weather service, which expects mostly sunny conditions during the rest of the week.
The rainy weather at the start of this week is a product of “deep tropical moisture that’s been kind of over us the past couple days,” Fowler said. A frontal boundary moving in from the north figures to enhance the risks for showers and thunderstorms on Monday afternoon, he said.

Winds are expected to remain calm for the most part, according to Fowler, who said there could be gusts of 20-30 mph.
“With the thunderstorms that develop today, lightning will be a concern,” he said. “We’re not anticipating any severe weather.”
