The Texas Department of Public Safety-Southeast Texas Region is seeking possible victims after saying it is investigating a person suspected of impersonating a police officer while driving an unmarked black truck.
“The suspect is alleged to have conducted traffic stops while driving an unmarked black 2022 Jeep Gladiator on US-190 in Walker, San Jacinto, and Polk counties,” the DPS Facebook post reads.
The Facebook post asks anyone pulled over by someone in civilian clothing driving a black 2022 Jeep Gladiator to contact the Conroe DPS Criminal Investigations Division. The post included a phone number and email address for contact. People can also use the iWatchTexas community reporting app or website.
The Facebook post included two photos of the vehicle. In the photos, a few stickers are visible, one being the words “We The People” in script above the back left fender. The word “Gladiator” on the tailgate is decorated to look like an American flag, with the first three letters blue with white stars and the last six letters red and white striped.
“If the vehicle has flashing red and blue lights, pull over,” DPS Staff Sergeant Mike Aftosmes said. “Ideally, you’d be looking for a uniformed officer, an officer with some type of marking badge or patch. And they should be able to identify themselves as a peace officer of some sort.”
Aftosmes said anyone who suspects the person is not a police officer should call 911 to verify the stop with the appropriate law enforcement agency.
