One of soccer’s biggest legends has arrived in Texas. And if David Beckham’s heartthrob appeal weren’t enough, he’s also embracing one of the state’s most time-honored tourist traditions.
For some visitors, that means making a pilgrimage to Buc-ee’s. For Beckham, it meant stopping at one of Texas barbecue‘s biggest names — and dressing the part.
As Spain prepares to face France in the FIFA World Cup semifinal at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the former England captain has been making the rounds across North Texas.
Beckham apparently knows a trip to Texas isn’t complete without barbecue.
The soccer icon was spotted at Terry Black’s Barbecue in Dallas, which shared a photo of Beckham’s visit on Instagram on Monday.
“Honored to welcome David Beckham to Terry Black’s ahead of the match,” the restaurant wrote. “And to every fan who’s visited us during the World Cup, thank you for the incredible support.”
Beckham isn’t the only soccer star to make a stop at the famed barbecue joint during the tournament. Terry Black’s also shared a photo of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland sporting one of the restaurant’s T-shirts, thanking him “for eating with us, and repping the Terry Black’s shirt.”
No Texas visit would be complete without a little Western flair.
Beckham shared photos on Instagram wearing a Stetson cowboy hat paired with a tailored suit and captioned the post, “Nice welcome to Dallas.” He also tagged “Yellowstone” actor Cole Hauser with the question: “How do I look @colehauser22??”
The look was about as Texas-coded as it gets.
Spain faces France in the World Cup semifinal in Arlington, while Argentina will take on England in the other semifinal Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Atlanta. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. in New Jersey, with the third-place match set for Saturday at 4 p.m. in Miami.
