A 15-year-old girl is recovering from a gunshot wound after an apparent accidental shooting at a home in Little Elm.
Little Elm Police said officers were called to a shooting at a home on Canyon Lake Drive at about 5 a.m. Sunday.
Officers learned the homeowner was out of town and left a 16-year-old at the residence, who invited several friends over. Police said investigators learned the 16-year-old resident unintentionally fired a gun, injuring a 15-year-old girl.
The girl was taken to Plano Presbyterian Hospital, where she was listed as stable. Further details about her injuries have not been confirmed.
Little Elm Police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but that they believe the shooting was accidental and an isolated incident.
“We have been in contact with both families and are providing them with support as the investigation continues,” the department said. “We ask the community to keep everyone involved in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
It’s unclear what charges, if any, the 16-year-old juvenile may face in connection with the shooting.
