LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Two groups opposed to large-scale data centers in Lubbock are now bringing their fight to county commissioners.
Save Lubbock and Citizens of Lubbock Against Data Centers held two public meetings last week on the subject. Dozens of speakers called for the city to delay or ban any large-scale projects.
Mayor Mark McBrayer said an outright ban would hurt the progress already made on regulations.
The groups’ proposed proclamation calls for protection of roads, water resources, infrastructure and public safety, as well as third-party studies on the effect a data center would have on the area.
Stephen Sanders, founder of one of the groups, said they are waiting to see if the commissioners court will consider the proclamation.
