Texans across the state have been following the news of Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches spreading from city to city. Folks in San Antonio are still left wanting, but the Midwest brand is once again expanding in the area, this time in a long-awaited location.
The filing for the $2.5 million restaurant lists the expected construction start date as November 2 and the projected completion date as May 3, 2027. The nearly 5,000-square-foot Portillo’s will also house a drive-thru at 2807 Sophie Lane, not far from the local Sprouts Farmers Market.
The timeline is an update from Portillo’s’ initial TDLR filing, which listed the expected completion date as September 14, 2025. Additionally, the size has dropped from 6,250 square feet to 4,987 square feet and the price has dropped from $6 million to $2.5 million. All TDLR filings are subject to change without notice, but MySA has reached out to Portillo’s and New Braunfels for comment on why the restaurant has faced delays.\
