One of the leading lights in the most recent wave of Regional Mexican Music that is taking the music to new heights of popularity, McAllen’s Grupo Frontera is returning to Houston on the heels of a recently released EP, “Con Dolor.” But you’re probably going to get all the big hits like “Coqueta,” “El Amor de Su Vida” and “Un x100to,” the trackthey made with Bad Bunny.

‘Challenging Brown’

Cris Eli Blak’s new play “Challenging Brown” already has won plaudits in Houston. It was the winner of the 2025 edition of the Fade to Black Arts Festival. Now, it’s opening for a two-week run and more theatergoers will get to experience this Texas-set story about the first Black teacher at an all-white high school in 1967.

It’s the 75th anniversary of The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston and the 40th anniversary of their opening of the Wortham Center, so why not celebrate both with a rousing production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers”? See what happens when two gondoliers in Venice find out that one of them is the heir to the throne of a far-away kingdom.

Mohama Saz and India Tigers in Texas

Madrid indie-rock quartet Mohama Saz takes a unique approach to its music. Blending psychedelia, folk and the sounds of the Mediterranean (the traditional instrument called the baglama saz is a big part of the mix!), the group has fashioned a globe-trotting style that is finding an audience outside of Spain. Similarly, Galveston’s India Tigers in Texas makes a heady rock’n’roll noise that fits in well with Mohama Saz’s approach, just as it did a couple of years back when opening for Brazil’s Os Mutantes here in Houston. The bands are playing two shows together.

The Fixx

The ’80s will be alive and well in the year 2026 when England’s The Fixx, fronted by Cy Curnin, takes the stage at the House of Blues. Back in the day, the group came up with a treasure trove of new wave and pop hits including “Red Skies at Night,” “One Things Leads to Another,” “Saved by Zero” and “Are We Ourselves?” And, unlike some of their contemporaries, they could deliver live as well.
