LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Five years ago Sergeant Joshua Bartlett was killed in the line of duty during a SWAT standoff in Levelland.
“Deputies who had the honor of working with him remember him fondly,” the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office said. “Sgt. Bartlett was a U.S. Army veteran and served as the Commander of Lubbock County’s Regional SWAT team.”
Five other officers were injured in the hours-long standoff.
Omar Soto-Chavira is accused of barricading himself in a home and actively shooting at law enforcement and first responders as they arrived.
Soto-Chavira is charged with capital murder and attempted capital murder. His trial is still pending.
In 2024, a judge approved a change of venue to Lubbock County.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office posted in remembrance of Sgt. Bartlett.
