A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty Monday to being a felon in possession of a firearm during the attempted robbery of a Lyft driver in Plano.
Antonio Detravion Woodard, Jr. was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Schell for a firearms violation, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Texas.
On Jan. 10, 2025, Woodard called for a Lyft and, after the driver’s arrival, pulled out a gun and said, “This is a robbery,” according to information presented in court.
Woodard then asked the driver, who wasn’t publicly identified, for access to his wallet and Cash App. Once he asked, Woodard discovered the driver had no cash and became upset, demanding that the driver not tell police what happened.
According to the statement, the driver was able to hit the safety feature in his Lyft app and prompt a law enforcement response. Investigators then determined Woodard was a convicted felon and was prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing a firearm.
Woodard’s case was investigated by Plano police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.
The investigation was part of the Operation Take Back America initiative, where marshals nationwide use Department of Justice resources to dissuade illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
