MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – The Texas Size Garage Sale once again lived up to its name.
The annual event packed a massive warehouse with donated goods, and every sale helped Senior Life Midland provide meals to homebound seniors in need.
Just a few weeks ago, this 25,000 square foot warehouse was packed from wall to wall with donations, everything from furniture to fashion.
The Texas Size Garage Sale returned for its 36th year, helping Senior Life Midland continue serving hot meals and warm smiles to homebound seniors.
Senior Life Midland recently held their 36th annual Texas Size Garage Sale last month.
With the help of volunteers, staff and the community, they raised more money for the Meals on Wheels program.
Director of Development for Senior Life Midland, Tracy Renton, said “We relied on our community to help us prepare, and they didn’t let us down. It was truly a community event and we’re so grateful to all of the volunteers who came out that made it possible and to our staff that just stepped up and made a huge impact.”
This year’s fundraising campaign goal is 150,000 dollars.
100 percent of the proceeds from the Texas Size Garage Sale are donated directly to Meals on Wheels. That money funds one-third of the meals for the whole year.
According to Tracy, every meal for a homebound senior costs eight dollars.
Reaching their fundraising goal is a priority for Senior Life Midland, as they help feed hundreds of seniors every day.
Renton continued, “We know the importance of feeding our homebound seniors. And with this being our largest fundraising event, we really do focus directly on the benefits that our seniors will receive from those funds.”
Meals on Wheels delivers meals Monday through Friday, three times a week.
Along with providing meals, the program offers multiple services to their clients, including small home repairs, smoke alarms, and more.
“We work very diligently to make sure that we are on the forefront of services available for seniors, and we evaluate our programs all the time to make sure that we are able to accomplish serving our seniors as they need us to,” said Renton.
For anyone who missed out on last month’s sale, they will be open again this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Everything inside will be 75% off.
